Marilynne Robinson Territory

I think probably one of the important things that happened to me was growing up in Idaho in the mountains, in the woods, and having a very strong presence of the wilderness around me. That never felt like emptiness. It always felt like presence. – Marilynne Robinson

Her book Housekeeping takes place in the panhandle of Idaho.  While the southern part of Idaho is dominated by irrigated farmland and rugged terrain (like thousands of miles of volcanic lava flow), the Northern slimmer section of Idaho is painfully beautiful.

The Coeur D’Alene area and the little town of Wallace are stunning on Highway 90.
