Her book Housekeeping takes place in the panhandle of Idaho. While the southern part of Idaho is dominated by irrigated farmland and rugged terrain (like thousands of miles of volcanic lava flow), the Northern slimmer section of Idaho is painfully beautiful.
The Coeur D’Alene area and the little town of Wallace are stunning on Highway 90.

In 1942 an executive order lead to 110,000 Japanese Americans to be rounded up and placed in Internment camps. In Portland, OR on the River Walk you can find the memorial.

Nebraska sports the impressive Sandhill Country, Wyoming boasts about their Tetons and the magnificent Sage Territory, and Idaho shows off history of Lava. The basalt fields of volcanic flow dominate Southern Idaho. The Bonneville Flood of the last Ice Age then carved up those lava fields in to spectacular canyons. Oh, and Idaho has wind too!
